This songbird has been making music for over a decade now. Jhene Aiko first gained fame with her mixtape Selling Souls, she started her career in her early teens as a vocalist for the R&B group B2K.
She was nominated for three Grammys back in 2015 and had a Billboard number one song "The Worst" the year before. She has released three albums since out then with her latest being Trip with the hit song "Sativa" ft. Swae Lee of Rae Sremmurd.
She also gained some notoriety with her personal life. Her music often reflects her past relationship, issues with her self, and her family. The Trip album was a personal album that in her words, "...Is the culmination of her recent journeys toward enlightenment following the loss of her brother, Miyagi, who died of brain cancer in 2012."
She went on to mention:
"I distracted myself by keeping myself busy … and trying to escape to peaceful places, by any means necessary."
Ms. Aiko has also been in the public eye because of her are they or aren't they relationship with rapper Big Sean. Jhene has the emotional vulnerability of Drake, while also giving a strong female voice in her music. That is what makes her so great! Make sure to listen to her latest album Trip available on iTunes, Spotify, and other streaming services.
